Why people choose CarData

This isn't your typical job.

Six things that are actually different about working here — not slogans.

Work Independently

Most of our field team spends the day working independently at automobile dealerships rather than sitting in an office with a supervisor watching over them.

You are given clear standards, responsibilities and expectations — and trusted to get the job done.

Get Rewarded for Performance

Many of our Field Service Representative positions use production-based compensation. That means efficiency, consistency and performance can directly impact what you earn.

Other CarData positions use hourly, salary or bonus-based compensation structures. Compensation varies by role and is clearly explained during the hiring process.

Learn a Specialized Industry

You do not need to arrive as an automotive photography expert.

CarData provides structured online education and hands-on field training to teach our systems, photography standards, dealership processes and workflow.

Work Around Cars Every Day

Our workplace isn't a cubicle.

Our field team works inside franchise automobile dealerships around new and used vehicles every day.

Real Responsibility

Our clients depend on us.

A Field Service Representative isn't simply taking pictures. That person is often the face of CarData at the dealership and is responsible for helping keep that client's online inventory current.

Grow in More Than One Direction

Career growth doesn't have to mean becoming someone's manager.

Some team members want leadership, sales or operations responsibilities. Others want to become exceptional Field Service Representatives and maximize their performance in the core position. Both paths matter at CarData.

The core of CarData

Our Field Service Representatives aren't "entry level." They're the core of our business.

Every day, our Field Service Representatives work directly inside our dealership partners. They identify inventory that needs service, locate and move vehicles, photograph them according to CarData standards, complete merchandising services and help make sure our dealership clients' inventory is properly represented online.

For many companies, the goal is to get promoted out of the field. We look at it differently.

You don't have to become a manager to build a great career here.

A talented Field Service Representative can build a successful long-term career without becoming a manager. Because many FSR positions are production-based, high-performing representatives can earn significant compensation based on their own production.

Know before you apply

We'd rather be clear with you now.

CarData is not for everyone — and that's okay.

You'll probably like CarData if you…

  • Prefer working independently
  • Are self-motivated without someone constantly supervising you
  • Like cars and dealership environments
  • Don't want to sit behind a desk all day
  • Are comfortable using smartphones and technology
  • Like being rewarded for productivity
  • Can handle clear and direct performance feedback
  • Take pride in being dependable
  • Enjoy having responsibility for your own work
  • Like staying active during the workday

This probably isn't for you if you…

  • Want a traditional studio photography position
  • Need someone constantly telling you what to do next
  • Strongly dislike working outdoors
  • Don't want to work in heat, cold or changing weather
  • Dislike repetitive, process-driven work
  • Aren't comfortable moving around large dealership lots
  • Don't like being measured on quality, productivity and reliability
  • Want to spend most of your day sitting at a desk

This is automotive inventory photography.

Our photography positions are high-volume, process-driven field positions. You may photograph many vehicles in a single day using established CarData standards. This isn't primarily artistic or studio photography — consistency, speed, vehicle presentation, accuracy and client service are what matter.

We want applicants to understand the job before accepting it.

Try the job before accepting it

Don't just interview for the job. Experience it.

CarData uses paid Shadow Days as part of our hiring process.

Instead of sitting across a desk answering hypothetical interview questions, qualified applicants can spend time in the field with a CarData manager and see what the work actually looks like. You get to evaluate us while we're evaluating you.

It's paid

CarData pays applicants for approved Shadow Day time.

It's part of the interview

Shadow Days are part of the interview process and are not a job offer.

There may be more than one

Depending on the position and local manager, applicants may participate in more than one Shadow Day before CarData makes a final hiring decision.

Training

We don't expect you to figure it out alone.

Training runs in order — online first, then in the field, then on your own.

Learn the System

Online training introduces CarData's standards, systems, workflow and expectations.

Train in the Field

You'll work alongside experienced CarData team members and learn the job in an actual dealership environment.

Build Independence

The goal of training is to get you comfortable enough to successfully manage your responsibilities independently while still having local management and company support available.

Photography experience can help, but for many field positions it isn't required. We can teach photography. Dependability, work ethic and willingness to learn are harder to teach.

More than one career path

Find the role that fits how you work.

Three different kinds of work — not three rungs on one ladder.

Our core field position

Field Service Representative

  • Assigned dealership responsibilities
  • Production/commission-based compensation in many markets

What your work actually does

You're helping dealerships compete online.

CarData provides professional vehicle photography, video, Spin360, window labels and other inventory merchandising services for automobile dealerships.

The work performed by our field team becomes part of the dealership's online vehicle listings and helps shoppers evaluate vehicles before visiting the store.

That means the work isn't sitting in some internal company folder. Customers see it. Dealerships depend on it. And our reputation depends on doing it consistently.

Apply

Think this sounds like you?

We're always looking for dependable, self-motivated people who want responsibility, independence and the opportunity to grow.

You don't have to be an expert automotive photographer when you arrive. But you do need to show up, learn, take feedback, work hard and care about doing the job correctly.
